NutriCalc Proudly Supports Feed The Hungry Charity
NutriCalc® are proud to support Feed The Hungry UK and related food charity projects, in their mission to provide high nutrition meals to thousands of families in the UK and abroad.
In the UK alone, 8.4 million people are in food poverty. In shocking contrast, every year the country wastes 9.5 million tonnes of food, and on a worldwide scale over one third of all food produced is wasted*.
Feed The Hungry run 15 foodbanks and 6 Social Supermarkets in the UK. They also have a commercial kitchen on their premises which repurposes surplus food as soups, jam, and chutneys.
Internationally, they provide meals to over 480,000 children in 26 countries, as well as exporting hundreds of tonnes of food for Humanitarian and Disaster Relief projects.
Feed The Hungry were looking for a calculation software solution which would provide detailed professional nutrition information and labelling, to ensure that the charity’s meals and food products are designed to a high nutrition standard.
After being contacted by them, NutriCalc were delighted to support the organisation’s very worthy cause and related charity projects by donating a license for them to use the software.
One such related project also using the software, NOUR:SH Kitchen, are tackling increasing food poverty in the Midlands by exploiting excessive food waste – turning it into nutritious meals for hundreds of people struggling to make ends meet.
The charity receives food donations from food businesses, the food industry, and local allotment organisations. Close to end of life or excess vegetables become nourishing soup, frozen into portions. Similarly, excess fruit is chopped into fruit pots and frozen, ready to be turned into refreshing smoothies. The fruit and vegetables are then distributed through Community Pantries for families on the breadline to enjoy.
