Custom Ingredient Declaration – Clearer & Simpler Labelling
As part of ongoing enhancements to our software, we’ve added a new feature for all users.
Under the Ingredient Declaration and Quid report, there is now the option to create your own Custom Declaration to use instead of the Ingredient Declaration on your product label / packaging, should you wish (and provided it adheres to the same regulatory requirements).
The Ingredient Declaration is generated automatically by the NutriCalc software, which by law must list ingredients by order of weight in their descending order.
Ingredients are listed in the Ingredient Declaration by their ‘labelling name’ – i.e. as you would prefer them to be described.
If you use some bought in, ready-made-up products as ingredients in your recipe, such as a pastry, your chosen labelling name for these products will usually be the list of ingredients provided on the supplier’s specification sheet – e.g. sugar, eggs, salt, water.
If you use lots of bought in products as ingredients, this can lead to like-for-like ingredients being listed multiple times in the Ingredient Declaration. The resulting ingredients list can be long and repetitive, making it confusing and hard for customers to read.
Using the new Custom Declaration option, you first total up the quantities of all like-for-like ingredients (in the Quid report section), then manually list them only once in their order of weight – resulting in a shorter, clearer, easier ingredient list to read.
Also, if the total amount of water does not exceed 5% of the recipe, you can remove all references to water as an ingredient.
Once you have your Custom Declaration, you can also copy it into Google to translate it into different languages if required.
Please note: the same labelling regulations still apply to your Custom Declaration, so ingredients must be listed in descending order of weight, applicable ingredients QUIDed, and official allergens listed / emboldened.
